Many people think that it takes days to set up web hosting and start a WordPress blog before they can get started blogging. However, this is just not the case. In fact, you can set up your web hosting account in just a few minutes and it’s easier than you think. I use Bluehost for all of my WordPress websites because it’s easy to use, fast, and it’s stable. If I want to set up a new WordPress blog I can do so in just a few minutes and a few mouse clicks. Bluehost has made it extremely easy for you to set up your site and install WordPress. I’m going to show you in just a few steps how you can set up hosting and start a WordPress blog in minutes.
I am an affiliate of Bluehost. The reason that I am an affiliate of them is because I use them for all of my WordPress sites, and I insist on my clients using them as well. I have had terrible hosting in the past, which only makes me appreciate Blueshost even more. they are fast, friendly, stable, and dedicated to each and every customer. I promote their services, because I use them myself, and have only had great experiences with them. Since I am an affiliate, I was able to get a great rate for all of my Power Blogger readers, at $3.95 per month, which is outstanding! The first thing you want to do is go to bluehost.com. You’ll see a screen just like the screenshot above highlighting some of their best services and benefits. Here are just a few of mine:
- 99% Uptime – Wow!!!
- With a basic hosting account you can host unlimited HTML websites.
- You can host over 100 WordPress websites just from one account with Bluehost.
- There are no additional fees for email accounts.
- You get a free domain name when you sign up with them.
- They also have a free site builder with built-in templates.
- Cloudflare has partnered with them and offers great CDN services to help your site run even better – Included!
Click the green “get started now” button to be taken to the next step if you’re starting fresh without a domain name. This is the screen where we’ll choose your domain name. This is an important step because it will be the domain name for your website. Make sure that it is catchy and relevant to your business. The best practice is to make sure that there are no hyphens in the domain name. Domain names without a hyphens tend to do better than those with hyphens. Once you’ve chosen the domain name, click the next button. Another option on this page is to transfer your domain from an existing domain provider. Bluehost gives you all of the instructions that you will need to transfer your domain from one domain provider to Bluehost or point your nameservers there. Either way you, go click the next button to continue to the next step.
You’ll need to fill out the form with your information everything is required except for your business name. This is because some people have personal websites. Fill out the information such as your first and last name your business country your mailing address city state and ZIP Code. You won’t have to have a phone number to have an account with blue host and her your phone number and your email address.
This section is extremely important for setting up your account. Here is a little tip for you; The more months you sign up for that one time, the cheaper your per month cost will be. If you know that you were going to be hosting your website for a long time then it is a good idea to go ahead and pay for the three years at one time because you will save a decent amount of money. The set up fee and the domain registration fee are both free with a new account. I would highly recommend purchasing the Domain Whois Privacy as well as the site backup Pro. These options are extremely important and worth the small amount of money that they actually cost. Sitelock domain security means that no one can find your information such as your home address. Site Backup Pro keeps your WordPress site backed up in case of an emergency or something happens or becomes corrupted. Bluehost is extremely secure and I wouldn’t worry about this anyway but the extra security is worth the small fee. This is mainly for protection against yourself, in case you install a bad plugin or completely erase parts of your database by mistake.
Finish filling out your billing information such as your card type your credit card number expiration date and the security code on the back of your card. You can also check out with PayPal which makes this very easy because you won’t have to remember to carry your credit card with you. However you set up your billing information now is how Bluehost will auto bill you in the future. However you can change this at any time later bye going into your account settings and going to the billing section. Confirm that you’ve read the user terms of service and all of their other policies and agreements and click the next button.
How to Install WordPress
This section is your cPanel which is the standard area for hosting where you will handle everything to do with your website and hosting account. Here you’ll find your email accounts and spam protection as well as scripts website builders and other options. To install WordPress scroll down to the website builder section and click on the WordPress icon shown with the arrow.
The next screen you see will tell you a little bit about WordPress and they have their one click install button. Here you can import an existing WordPress installation if you’re an advanced user or you can start a brand-new WordPress install. Click the start button to start a brand-new install.
The next screen is where you will choose which domain name you can like to install your WordPress hosting content. Click the drop down box and select your domain name that you would like to install WordPress.
The next thing you will do is install WordPress. However before you click the install now button, I would suggest clicking the show advanced options box. This will open up extra options where you can customize parts of the install. Don’t worry, this is still really simple. This section will let you choose your site name or title and you can also choose your username and password that you use to log into WordPress once it’s installed. These username and passwords will be what you will use to log into WordPress’s administration menu in the browser. You can also specify what email address that this WordPress install is assigned. Make sure that “automatically create a new database for this installation” is checked. Check the box that says you have read the terms and conditions, and now you’re ready to click install.
Bluehost’s system will begin installing WordPress automatically. At this time they are creating the WordPress database and installing all of the necessary files that will be needed to Start a WordPress Blog on your hosting account. This will run for just a minute and you should receive a success message. This lets you know that WordPress has been successfully installed, and you should receive an email with your username and password at the email address that you set up when you initially installed WordPress. Now you can go into your browser, type in your URL followed by and WP – admin. Here’s an example: if your site is yourmoney.com, then to access your WordPress admin for the site, you will go to http://www.yourmoney.com/wp-admin. Here you will put your username and password that you set up. Now you have properly set up your hosting account and your WordPress installation. Now you’re ready to start choosing a WordPress theme and start a WordPress blog.
